Famous couplets (اشعار)
khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle / Khuda bande se khud pooche bata teri raza kya hai
Raise your selfhood so high that, before deciding each destiny, God Himself asks the servant: “Tell me, what is your wish?”
sitaaron se aage jahaan aur bhi hain / abhi ishq ke imtihaan aur bhi hain
Beyond the stars there are yet more worlds — there are still more trials of love to be faced.
kabhi ai haqeeqat-e-muntazir nazar aa libaas-e-majaaz mein / ke hazaaron sajde tarap rahe hain meri jabeen-e-niyaaz mein
O long-awaited Truth, appear once in the garb of the visible world — for a thousand prostrations quiver upon my humble brow.
nahin tera nasheman qasr-e-sultaani ke gumbad par / tu shaaheen hai basera kar pahaadon ki chattaanon mein
Your nest is not on the dome of a royal palace — you are a falcon; make your home among the mountain crags.
My love is for those young ones who cast their lasso upon the very stars.
apne man mein doob kar pa ja suraagh-e-zindagi / tu agar mera nahin banta na ban apna to ban
Dive deep into your own self and find the trace of life — if you will not be mine, then don’t; but at least be your own.
yaqeen muhkam amal paiham mohabbat faateh-e-aalam / jihaad-e-zindagaani mein hain ye mardon ki shamsheeren
Firm faith, ceaseless action, and world-conquering love — these are the swords of true men in the struggle of life.
ek hi saf mein khade ho gaye Mahmood-o-Ayaz / na koi banda raha na koi banda-nawaz
Master and slave stood shoulder to shoulder in the same row — no one remained a servant, and no one a lord.
